How To Clean and Care for RevWood® Flooring

Cleaning & Care
Flooring 101

If you’ve installed RevWood® laminated wood in your home, you already know it’s a game-changer. Durable, stylish, and low maintenance, RevWood flooring gives you the beauty of hardwood with the toughness of laminated wood. But like all floors, it still needs some TLC to look its best for years to come. Whether you're new to laminate floor care or just want a refresher, here’s your friendly guide to keeping your floors looking fresh, clean, and beautiful.

Start With Smart Prevention

The easiest way to keep any floor clean is to stop the mess at the door. Literally. Place exterior mats outside every entrance. Look for mats with two types of fibers — soft to soak up moisture and coarse to scrape off dirt. Pro tip: have two sets so you can swap them out for cleaning without skipping a beat.

Just inside the doors, interior mats add another line of defense. Choose absorbent mats with breathable, nonstaining backs, and clean them (and underneath them!) regularly. Skip rubber mats since they can trap moisture or stain your floors.

Don’t forget about your furniture. Add nonstaining felt or plastic pads under all chair and table legs to protect your RevWood floor from scratches. And if you’re moving something heavy? Use plywood and a dolly to avoid dents or gouges.

Routine Cleaning: Easy Does It

Your RevWood floors are built for busy households, but regular cleaning is still essential. For day-to-day hard surface cleaning, sweeping or dust mopping is your best friend. Use a vacuum designed for hard surfaces — no beater bars or rotary brushes, please! Microfiber mops are great, too. Just be sure to swap or wash the mop head regularly, but avoid using fabric softener in the wash, as it can leave streaks.

When it comes to occasional cleaning, damp mopping is okay, but only if your specific floor came with a WetProtect® or Wet Resistance Warranty. Use a lightly damp mop with just water, or if needed, mix 1 cup of vinegar or 1/3 cup non-sudsing ammonia per gallon of water. Skip steam mops unless your floor specifically allows them.

And remember: never flood or soak your floor. Avoid puddles, pouring water directly on the floor, or letting moisture sit. That’s just asking for trouble.

Spill and Spot Tips

Life happens, and so do spills. The key is to not let them linger. Wipe up liquids right away with an absorbent cloth. If needed, lightly mist a clean microfiber cloth with a Mohawk-recommended cleaner and work from the outside of the spill toward the center. The same approach works for spots — tackle messes quickly to protect the floor and make cleanup easier.

Got a scuff from a wheelchair? No worries. Light black marks from rubber wheels can be easily removed with a little acetone (yep, nail polish remover!).

Final Floor Wisdom

Here are a few final do’s and don’ts for floor maintenance.
✅ Do keep pet nails trimmed.
✅ Do avoid wearing spiked heels, cleats, or damaged shoes.
❌ Don’t use waxes, oil soaps, detergents, or abrasive cleaners.
❌ Don’t use power scrubbers or harsh chemicals.

With just a little regular care and a few preventative steps, your Mohawk flooring will shine for years to come. That’s the beauty of RevWood — effortless style, superior performance, and laminate floor care made simple. Explore more about RevWood flooring at MohawkFlooring.com.
